Project #2
Project #2
Project #2 is a versatile indigo scarf made out of offcuts from men’s shirting production that were destined for incineration. We carefully salvaged this discarded cloth by hand from factories in East London.
.
Each scarf is made up of offcut panels featuring the selvedge of the cloth. These offcuts ran the length of the production lay and we rescued them as long panels. We wanted to incorporate the beauty of this raw edge selvedge into the design, a detail most often always discarded in the production process.
–
We prepared and crafted the hang loops by hand.
–
The leather for the hang loops was rescued from leather factory waste bins. We uncovered small random sized pieces of natural, black and navy leather suitable in size for such a small detail.
–
Each scarf is limited edition and features a hand stamped and hand numbered offcut rescue label. This number records what position this piece holds in the number of items we have crafted out of rescued offcuts.
